How does alcohol and other drug misuse affect your community?
We continue to work on reducing underage drinking in our community and use several tools to do so. “Project Northland” by Hazelden Publishing and “Too Good For Drugs” by The Mendez Corporation are nationally recognized alcohol use prevention programs. These curricula invite participation and experiential learning at home, in the classroom, and in the local community. A vital aspect of these programs is their multifaceted approach, as prevention research shows that addressing alcohol use at multiple levels strengthens outcomes.
What challenge(s) did you face in planning your activity this year?
- Needed additional resources to conduct activity
- Lack of awareness of our event or organization
How did you overcome these challenges?
We were able to raise awareness of our event by hanging flyers and posters around town at local businesses to make sure that many community sectors had the opportunity to attend.
What are your next steps?
- Host follow-up meetings or activities
- Expand our coalition with new partnerships in the community
- Support new prevention policies, legislation, or social ordinances

Our panel discussion allowed for our attendees to continue a much-needed dialogue around underage drinking, substance misuse, and prevention to build on the curricula we implement in the community.
