SAMHSA Releases New Resources To Engage Youth in Underage Drinking Prevention

07/27/2016

Watch the Webinar and Get the New Guide on Engaging Youth in Underage Drinking Prevention

An archive of a webinar and a new publication on engaging youth in underage drinking prevention are now available online. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsored the Partnering With Youth: Powerful Prevention of Underage Drinking webinar on June 15, which had more than 950 people register and more than 500 people attend. Participants learned best practices for engaging youth in underage drinking prevention, the benefits of and approaches to youth leadership in underage drinking prevention programs, and how to partner with youth to implement environmental prevention strategies. An archive of the presentation is now available.

Additionally, SAMHSA has released the new Guide to Youth Engagement in Underage Drinking Prevention Events. Youth and young adults have many ideas and opinions about the issues that affect their daily lives, including their health. The purpose of this guide is to help organizations effectively partner with youth to plan and conduct efforts to prevent and reduce underage drinking.

SAMHSA developed both the guide and the webinar with the California Friday Night Live Partnership, which focuses on building partnerships for positive and healthy youth development by engaging youth to be active leaders and resources in their communities.
