Alcohol-Related Disease Impact (ARDI)

ARDI is an online application that provides national and state estimates of alcohol-related health impacts, including deaths and years of potential life lost (YPLL). These estimates are calculated for 58 acute and chronic causes using alcohol-attributable fractions, and are reported by age and sex for 2011-2015.

In April 2022, ARDI was updated with data from 2015–2019. To adjust for the underreporting of self-reported alcohol use, methodologic changes were made to conservatively account for a portion of per capita alcohol sales when calculating the prevalence of low, medium, and high average daily alcohol consumption. This affects some alcohol-attributable fractions and estimates of the number of alcohol-attributable deaths and years of potential life lost for most of the chronic conditions, as well as the totals. More information is available on the ARDI Announcements and Methods pages.
