Information for You

Underage drinking is a serious public health problem that affects an entire community. Therefore, each segment of the community has a specific role in its prevention:

  • Businesses in the community have the critical task of preventing youth access to alcohol and ensuring that marketing of alcohol is directed only to those over age 21;
  • Community/faith-based organizations have a unique opportunity to help youth build strong beliefs that can deter them from illegal underage alcohol use;
  • Educators can use their position in the community to help educate youth and families about underage drinking and its consequences;
  • Parents/caregivers can have the biggest influence on youth in helping them decide against underage drinking; and
  • The majority of youth do not use alcohol and can help their peers make the same healthy and responsible choice.
