Social Media to Promote Your Communities Talk Event
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. How can you use these social media platforms to promote your Communities Talk event? The Communities Talk Social Media Guide provides tips for using social media, from selecting platforms to guidelines for writing and posting content. Are you a prevention professional on a college or university campus? On June 4, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) co-hosted a Twitter chat with Communities Talk about preventing and reducing college student drinking. Check it out by searching #CommunitiesTalk on Twitter. The chat discussed groups that are most at-risk for binge drinking among college students, activities and programs that have worked on college campuses, and resources used for planning underage drinking prevention programs on campus. SAMHSA has resources for college and university prevention professionals to use when educating their communities about the risks and harms associated with underage college drinking. Move your college community to action with these resources:

The Planning Guide for Colleges and Universities offers ideas for hosting a campus event, as well as resources and timelines with ideas specific to the unique needs of institutions of higher education.
The Sound of Your Voice video and corresponding parent guide, Talking With Your College-Bound Young Adult About Alcohol, provides tips for parents to encourage them to talk with their young adults about alcohol use before and during their freshman year.
College Drinking: Prevention Perspectives video series highlights underage drinking prevention strategies on and around college campuses across the nation. The first video in this series, Lessons Learned at Frostburg State University, explores actions taken to reduce underage and harmful drinking at Frostburg State University. The video offers educators, parents, and prevention organizations valuable insights into campus and community prevention efforts that work.
The Report to Congress on the Prevention and Reduction of Underage Drinking includes information for college and university prevention professionals about alcohol use in the college environment, and the social costs on campuses of underage drinking.
