It Takes A Village - A community approach to reducing underage drinking
Youth led education resulting in a call to action from the community.
Five individual presentations
By presenting real information for our community, the objective was to create a call to action for policy change, whether in our school district or the community at large.
Overwhelmingly the participants called for enforcement of the existing social host ordinances. The general consensus is that most alcohol consumption takes place after school events and therefore police enforcing the SHO is most likely to be effective. In ranking the priorities for actions, 81% ranked SHO enforcement as the top priority. Second was using chartered buses for school dances, third was a uniformed school dance policy (whereby all high schools follow the same policy for efforts to reduce underage drinking.).
